Event1: Deaf Leadership Training

Deaf Leadership Training (27-30/12/2009)


To prepare the Deaf participants for their active engagement in the Deaf Dialogue, a training program entitled Building a Better Asia: Deaf Leadership Training is organized in December 2009. It aims to implement leadership training in important concepts like the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), human rights of deaf people, importance of deaf and hearing people collaborating in sign linguistics research and training, social advancement of Asian Deaf communities, the role and responsibilities of young deaf individuals in the future development of Asian deaf communities, and the techniques in surveying the needs of the Deaf in different Asian countries.

Four facilitators are invited to share their valuable experiences with the participants:

(a)  Mr. Ichiro Miyamoto is Director of WFD RSA/P, a Board Member of the Japanese Federation of the Deaf, and the President of the Tokyo Federation of the Deaf.

(b)  Mr. Nickson O. Kakiri is Chair of the Kenya National Association of the Deaf (KNAD).

(c)  Mr. Colin Allen is elected a board member of the World Federation of the Deaf since 2003.

(d)  Ms. Hilde Haualand currently works as a researcher at the Fafo Institute of Labour and Social Research in Oslo, Norway.
