My name is M.K.G. Geshani Amila, and I am from Sri Lanka. I was born on 13 November 1983 at Mahamodara Hospital in Galle Town.

I attended Sacred Heart Convent, a girls’ school in Galle. We had a special classroom, but the teachers at the school did not pay much attention to us. So, my parents enrolled me in Matara Rohana Special School.

Rohana was a special school for deaf children like us. Because of that, we received a good education and more attention to our needs.

My favorite subject was dancing. My teachers were very helpful in improving my dancing ability. I went to far away places to conduct dancing programs with my school teachers and we won many awards from those competitions.

I was a prefect at the school and I passed the G.C.E. ordinary level exam. After my O/L exam, I stayed at home and started a mini garment business to earn money, and had a good client base. At the same time, I joined the SUMSGA society at Matara, and they guided me to several job opportunities. They introduced me to CFD and they appointed me for the APSL programme in Hong Kong about two years ago.

Now, I am working in Hong Kong. My future plans are to continue my education and serve my motherland. I would most like to be a teacher and to give my knowledge to other children who are the same as me.
